What is Compression Therapy?

NormaTec Compression Therapy, founded by bioengineer and rehabilitation physician Dr. Laura F. Jacobs in 1998, is a leading treatment for circulatory-related conditions. This advanced therapy uses a specialized air pressure sequence that works in harmony with the body’s circulatory system, enhancing lymphatic flow and blood circulation. The result is improved recovery, reduced swelling, and overall better health.

How Does Compression Therapy Work?

The lymphatic system and circulatory system play a crucial role in transporting oxygen-rich blood and fluids throughout the body. When fluids build up in a specific area for an extended period, it leads to pain, inflammation, and hinders proper blood circulation and healing. Dynamic compression therapy effectively stimulates lymphatic flow and blood circulation, reducing inflammation, clearing metabolic waste, and promoting faster recovery. By increasing blood flow, compression therapy helps warm muscle tissue, alleviating tightness and soreness, and supporting the body’s natural healing process.

What to Expect During a Compression Therapy Session

During a compression therapy session, you’ll first experience a pre-inflate cycle, where the sleeve gently compresses and releases to conform to your body, ensuring precise pressure for optimal results. Following this, the session begins with rhythmic compression patterns, similar to a therapeutic massage. Each area of the sleeve will apply pulsing compression, followed by a release, targeting specific zones to enhance blood flow and promote muscle recovery. This process continues until every segment of the sleeve has been effectively treated, maximizing your recovery and relaxation.

Pulsing

Uses a pulsing compression pattern to mimic the way muscles pump.

Gradients

Veins and lymphatic channels have one-way valves to prevent fluid back flow. Compression therapy uses hold pressures to keep fluids from moving in the wrong direction.

Distal Release

This releases the hold pressures once they are no longer needed to prevent back flow.

Targeted Compression for Arms, Hips & Legs

Relieve tension, improve circulation, and speed up recovery where your body needs it most.

Our NormaTec Compression Therapy is designed to focus on the areas that work the hardest—arms, hips, and legs. Whether you’re on your feet all day, recovering from a workout, or managing chronic discomfort, this therapy provides powerful support for key muscle groups.
