Dr. Jennifer Vollrath-Grosam treats a wide variety of Pediatric Health Issues. Listed below are just a few of the most commonly treated conditions for our young patients...
Infants who present to the clinic with colic are successfully treated with very gentle spinal manipulation. The manipulation is extremely gentle...the same amount of pressure is used as in checking the ripeness of a tomato. Most babies (over 90%) are completely improved within four treatment sessions. Maternal recommendations and infant massage techniques are also reviewed to expedite the resolution of colic.
Ear infections are a very common occurrence in our society and a condition that can very effectively be treated by a chiropractor. One of the things considered in this course of treatment is the autonomic system. By adjusting, or performing a spinal manipulation, to the baby or child's mid back area the immune system is boosted. Many other considerations include craniosacral work to balance the movement of the cranium which houses the ear, dietary intake, position of the baby while feeding, as well as potential allergens, just to name a few. The amount of force used in adjusting a baby or child is very gentle, again similar to the amount of pressure used to check the ripeness of a tomato.
Infants can have toricollis from the birth process and from a flattening of the head causing the head to turn into a certain direction. Torticollis is very effectively treated by working on the cranium with craniosacral technique, stretching muscles that may be too tight and by making sure the spine is properly aligned. The birth process can actually be very traumatic to the spine. The sooner children and infants are treated the faster they respond to chiropractic treatment for this condition.
Children who suffer from bed wetting can be successfully treated to resolve this condition. Clinical research in Europe indicates a high percentage (over 60%) of relief when chiropractic care including treatment to the lumbar spine (lower back) and the cervical spine (neck).
Gait Analysis & Walking Issues
When children begin to stand and walk they will fall down often and repeatedly. This can lead to changes in the alignment of the pelvis, hips, and knees. Sometimes this can cause a child to walk with a toe turned in or possibly discontinue walking all together. Chiropractors can check to make sure that all of these areas are aligned properly and assess how a child is walking and standing to correct problems before the potentially become worse.
